Sharing our Black Lesbian love, on and off stage.

run.

run. is our evening-length, dance-poetry story as two, Black, out-Lesbian women in a committed relationship, who navigate the daily struggles and joys of life in New York. We invite our audience to enter our world as observers, listening in on our intimate, strong, and loving conversations about and influenced by our identities. We hope those experiencing run. will bring what they've learned into their own lives and interactions with others across various and intersectional backgrounds.

We premiered run. on Aug. 11 and 12, 2017, at Point Green in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, and have toured the piece nationwide.

We would like to thank the Việt Tide Weekly Magazine for their sponsorship of run. We would also like to thank Brooklyn Arts Exchange (BAX), with support from the New York State Council on the Arts, the NYC Department of Cultural Affairs, and the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, for their 2017 Summer Space Grant, which allowed us the space and time to create, develop and re-imagine much of the piece.

home.

home. is our second evening-length dance-poetry piece that deeply explores our daily realities as a Black, out-Lesbian couple living and loving in New York. This piece goes beyond glimpses into our living; it hones in on the details of our experiences and provides the accompanying emotions with grounding. Along with sharing our everyday interactions with “micro” aggressions and making visible the impacts of violence, we highlight our love as a healing force, potent enough to transform our pain into power.

We premiered an excerpt of home. on Nov. 10, 2018 at FiveMyles in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, and the piece in its entirety on Feb. 22, 2019 at OUTsider Festival in Austin, TX. We are currently on a nationwide tour with this piece and are actively adding to our schedule.

We would like to thank our former apartment in Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn, NY, for providing us our home, our safe space, and our rehearsal studio during the initial creation of this piece. You will always have a place in our hearts 1J!

If you would like us to bring run. or home. to you, send us a message in our Contact Us tab.

Finally, run. and home. would not be what they are without our in-house musician creating original music for our piece. Here is some info about him below!

Garrett Miller - Musician

Garrett Miller is a California-based composer, producer and performer invested in questioning the nature of listening through the lens of vulnerability. How do we engage in listening and relating to sounds, and to each other?

These questions are explored through combining the acoustical properties of sound, digital and analog synthesis, and the infinite number of ways these sounds can be engineered. The concept of vulnerability is explored through unaffected, to heavily manipulated, phone captured recordings of candid conversation and the environmental sounds a person is subjected to (or actively creates). This aims to expand the collaborative process of communication in a deeply personal manner.

Garrett draws influence from a wide range of genres and eras and is largely inspired by the ideologies of John Cage and Pauline Oliveros. In our times of social and economic injustice we must remember to hold a ”continual alertness and an inclination to always be listening” -Pauline Oliveros.
